DESCRIPTION:Designed to enhance the human side of healthcare\, this 3-day workshop focuses on the role and application of dignity in all aspects of clinical practice. The research\, assessment tools\, and clinical applications of dignity conserving care will be examined during Day 1\, while Day 2 and Day 3 provide a detailed look at the clinical application of Dignity Therapy. If you are looking to expand your ability to care for patients as people\, to reconnect with why you chose to work in healthcare in the first place\, or to broaden your community of like-minded clinicians\, this is the workshop for you. \nWorkshop dates are September 10th\, 17th and 23rd. 0900 – 1300 CST \nDay 1  – September 10\, 2024 \nThis workshop is for providers at any level who want to focus on the human side of healthcare and build a dignity conserving repertoire of practice. SUMMARY:CHCA Project ECHO: Unpacking the Principles of a Palliative Approach to Care: Addressing Barriers to Care
DESCRIPTION:Description: Although palliative care is widely recognized in Canada\, many still lack access to the services and support needed to ensure a person’s quality of life before death. The availability of palliative home care programs and funding varies greatly across provinces\, making it difficult for many Canadians to benefit from these services—less than half of those in need receive them. A recent study in Victoria\, BC\, focused on “structurally vulnerable” and marginalized individuals\, examining ways to reduce their suffering and isolation in their final days. Home care providers are essential in overcoming these obstacles\, offering equitable and culturally sensitive palliative care. It is particularly crucial to identify and address the barriers faced by underserved communities\, such as those in rural areas\, minority groups\, and economically disadvantaged populations. By doing so\, caregivers can ensure that all Canadians have access to compassionate end-of-life care. He tries to spend as much time in the outdoors with his two boys as he can muster. \nDr. Kavi Singh: Dr. Singh has worked for 25 years with the Inuit of Nunavik and the Cree of Eeyou Istchee (James Bay). From skidoo toboggan medevacs\, to unfreezing IV lines in his armpits in a twin otter\, he realized med school and residency didn’t quite prepare him for real life.  He has spent the last decade working on changing how acute care is approached and taught for austere environments.  Apart from paddling\, BJJ & being in the mountains\, he loves being with his young kids and wonderful wife.

DESCRIPTION:Update on Principles and Practice of Mechanical Ventilation – June 7\, 2024 \nA half-day small group “Update on Principles and Practice of Mechanical Ventilation” workshop will be offered to trainees registered in a Canadian critical care training program as well as practicing intensivists and respiratory therapists. Participants will be able to choose from a selection of workshop topics to best suit their learning goals. Space is limited so be sure to register early. \nCanadian Critical Care Review – June 8-9\, 2024 \nThe CCCS is pleased to host the Canadian Critical Care Review (CCCR) for 2024 at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel. This vital critical care review course will follow our traditional format of learning\, and with the aid of interactive media\, participants will be able to anonymously assess their knowledge and readiness for the Royal College examination to help identify areas for ongoing development. \nThis year’s review course will focus on adult critical care medicine. Content will be made available to all learners after the course\, providing a valuable resource for exam preparation. To ensure registrants are able to review topics not covered in this year’s course\, applicable session recordings from the 2023 review course will also be made available. \nAs always\, the CCCS is committed to delivering a highly valued\, engaging program to meet the educational needs of critical care trainees\, practicing critical care nurses\, allied health professionals\, respiratory therapists and intensivists. Our goal is to address the challenges in preparing for the Royal College subspecialty examination in critical care as well as the challenges in maintaining competency in clinical professional practice.

This webinar\, featuring the guidelines’ clinical leads\, will provide an overview of the processes for developing the guidelines as well as highlights of some of the key recommendations. \nCCSMH is a national non-profit organization affiliated with the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry.
