SUMMARY:'Dignity in Care' - Longwoods Breakfast Series
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov\, Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba and a Senior Scientist\, CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute and\nNancy Lefebre\, Senior Vice President and COO for the Business of Caring\, SE Health \nTopic: Dignity in Care \nJoin Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov and Nancy Lefebre as they discuss and offer their insights on the struggles of life limiting experiences and understanding end-of-life care for patients\, care providers and medical professionals. Patients and their caregivers require physical and emotional care\, especially as they enter the later stages of life. Failure to attend to personhood can be as subtle as being kept waiting for an appointment\, as insidious as being required to wear a plastic hospital bracelet that tracks patients according to an institutional number or code\, as jarring as being referred to as an aberrant body part – the proverbial “GI bleed in room two” or “breast tumor in room three.” This conversation on Dignity in Care will describe what healthcare providers need to know about the humanity and tone of care; and how they can engage in these facets of care in a thoughtful and meaningful way that will satisfy their patients’ needs to be seen and appreciated as “whole persons.” \nLocation: From the comfort of your own home or space via Zoom\, Toronto\, Canada \, Toronto \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Caring for the carers: Improving the psychological well-being of the health workforce
DESCRIPTION:Our most pressing challenges in healthcare require focused\, constructive discussions. Sharing openly and listening to diverse perspectives and experiences. At Healthcare Excellence Canada\, we’ve developed the Spotlight Series to do just that. \nThe pandemic strained an already overburdened health system. The mental well-being of the workforce\, and thus the quality and safety of care\, are impacted. Supporting the psychological well-being of the health workforce – the backbone of the health system – is needed now more than ever. \nHEC’s new approach to patient safety recognizes that the mental health of the workforce is deeply entwined with quality and safety of care. While funding and policy elements at provincial and federal levels are important\, so are strategies at the individual-\, team- and organization-level. Join the webinar to learn from others about initiatives that have improved the psychological well-being of healthcare workers and how you can incorporate some of the tools and strategies in your work\, no matter your role or workplace. \nRegister to attend \nPanelists\n\nAinsley Young\, Executive Director\, Operations\, SWITCH BC\nIvy Bourgeault\, PhD\, Director\, Healthy Professional Worker Partnership; Professor\, University of Ottawa\nPhilippa Dawood\, Wellness Specialist\, Scarborough Health Network\n\nHost\n\nColleen Ferris\, Director\, Innovations and Strategic Development\, Healthcare Excellence Canada
