DESCRIPTION:Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov ‘Intensive Caring: Reminding Patients They Matter’\nThis lecture will be given online by Dr Harvey Max Chochinov. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Harvey Max Chochinov is a Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba and a Senior Scientist at CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute. His research in palliative care has resulted in more than 300 career publications\, broaching diverse topics such as depression\, quality-of-life\, suicide\, vulnerability\, spirituality\, and existential distress. He has also led a large program of research on dignity within the healthcare setting\, which includes the development and study of Dignity Therapy. \nDr. Chochinov is the co-founder of the Canadian Virtual Hospice\, co-editor of The Handbook of Psychiatry in Palliative Medicine (Oxford University Press). His latest book is entitled Dignity in Care: The Human Side of Medicine\, published by Oxford University Press. He is an Officer in the Order of Canada\, and an inductee into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. \nThe Cicely Saunders International Annual Lecture is an annual event hosted by the Cicely Saunders Institute\, King’s College London. \nSpeakers at this event are global leaders whose work has significantly influenced the field. The presentation will provide an overview of a suite of newly created curricula and resources developed at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health\, Lakehead University\, in partnership with Elders\, Indigenous organizations\, scholars and health and social care providers. \nThese tools recognize the diversity of Indigenous communities’ experiences\, knowledge\, and cultural teachings regarding health\, caregiving\, dying and death. As a result\, the content is not grounded in any Indigenous community’s practice or knowledge.
