SUMMARY:Rural Reach Webinar: Cases from the Great White North
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThis session will explore the complexities of working in low-resource settings\, particularly in remote northern communities. We will discuss challenges such as triaging costly medical flights and utilizing telemedicine for cases which require ACLS\, ATLS\, and PALS. We will compare case management between resource-limited and resource-abundant environments\, and learn about unique infectious diseases of the North. Special focus will be given to the ED Peer Programs\, which address specific barriers in low-resource settings.  \nObjectives: \n\nOutline and discuss challenges in low-resource communities.\nDiscuss Lessons learned from working in low-resource settings.\nReview and compare the management of cases in low-resource settings vs resource-abundant environments.\nDiscuss the ED Peer Programs in several provinces that aim to overcome certain challenges in low-resource settings.\n\nPresenter:\nDr. Nour Khatib is an emergency physician in Toronto working in community sites at Markham Stouffville Hospital and rural sites across Ontario. Dr. Khatib also works in remote Northern communities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Before her career in medicine\, she was a financial analyst for Pratt & Whitney Canada and has a background in Finance and an MBA. She hopes to share with you her love for working in low-resource settings and pique your interest in working rurally. \nREGISTER HERE
