How Urine Tests Drive Antibiotic Overuse Across Health Sectors – Choosing Wisely
November 18, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Urine dipsticks and urinalysis are often used to diagnose suspected urinary tract infections (UTIs). But they are often inaccurate in older adults, and the results lead to a cascade of unnecessary testing and antibiotic use. This happens in long-term care, primary care and emergency departments, and the resulting cascade frequently follows the patient across care settings.
Join Choosing Wisely Talks on November 18 at 1 p.m. ET to discuss why low-value urine testing persists, the impact on antibiotic use, and system-wide strategies to improve practice.
