For a variety of reasons, it is currently not possible to identify who actually gets and who delivers specialty palliative care from billing and other data sets. CAPC’s Health Care Transformation Team will explore the way palliative care is currently researched, regulated, and reimbursed, and highlight the potential negative impacts of these approaches – including payment denials. They will also suggest some ideas that could improve palliative care identification.

• Articulate the challenges in identifying specialty palliative care delivery using existing data sets
• Recognize where these limitations appear in research and payment, and reconsider communication strategies to improve clarity
• Pursue at least one opportunity to improve identification of specialty palliative care delivery within their domain
